Sometimes the best way to support our environment is simply to get out there and get your hands dirty. It was great to partner with DFK Everalls for our most recent planting event, swapping the office for a day restoring Lerida Creek near Cullerin.

The group spent the day helping revegetate the creek on a property owned by long-term ARRC landholder Dom Hallam. Lerida Creek has been impacted by land clearing, erosion, declining water quality and invasive weeds, making revegetation an important part of improving its quality and resilience.

‍

Getting plants in the ground is a simple but important part of bringing life back to our waterways.

After learning a little more about the property and the work underway along Lerida Creek, it was time to start planting, with 300 tubestock ready to go. Aaron Chatfield from Dreamtime Connections showed us how to get the native tubestock in the ground, and later shared some of his knowledge of bush tucker with the group, before we finished over a BBQ lunch.

As the plants establish, they will help stabilise the creek banks and improve water quality, while creating habitat for native species and helping build the climate resilience of the waterway over time. The planting also supports Dom's ongoing work to look after Lerida Creek as part of ARRC’s broader approach of working alongside landholders to restore waterways on private land.

For the DFK Everalls team, this event was an opportunity to make a direct contribution to a local project that will continue to have an impact long after the planting day is over, while seeing what river restoration looks like on the ground. Corporate planting days like this connect workplace teams with the landscapes and landholders behind our waterways, while directing business support towards practical work that makes a real difference to the environment.

A big thank you to DFK Everalls for supporting this work and getting involved, and to Dom for welcoming the team onto his property. We can’t wait to check in over the coming years and see these trees grow!

Support river restoration with your team

ARRC works directly with landholders to restore waterways and the landscapes around them. Our corporate planting days give businesses a unique opportunity to support this work while getting their teams out on a restoration site and involved in the work themselves.
