The Red-necked Avocet, also known as the Australian avocet, cobbler, cobbler’s awl, and painted lady, is a native Australian wader bird with a distinctive upcurved bill. It feeds mainly on aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates such as insects, molluscs, frogs and crayfish, and appeared on a 13 cent postage stamp in 1966!
