As I edit the Northern Australia’s Rivers and Estuaries RipRap it is timely to consider this new White Paper and the motivations behind it.

Excerpts from PM’s press release:

“With a land mass covering over three million square kilometres, and a population of over one million people, the north has untapped potential. It is home to some of our most treasured icons including the Great Barrier Reef, the wet tropics of Queensland, Uluru, Kakadu and Cable Beach…”

“…We will drive down the costs of operating in the north for business; making it a more attractive place to invest and work. By building a prosperous north, we will build a better future for all Australians.”

Andrew Campbell provides a thought provoking response to the White Paper in an article published for The Conversation entitled ‘Is the white paper a game changer for Northern Australia’ – I encourage you  read it as it will certainly wet your appetite for the new RipRap that has articles covering many of the issues raised.
