Shout Out Our Rivers

Throughout September 2024, many Australians and international folks joined us in celebrating and raising awareness for Australia’s waterways.

Why?

World Rivers Day is a global tribute to our waterways, and is celebrated on the 4th Sunday of every September. This day highlights the many values of rivers and strives to raise awareness to promote better care for rivers globally. Each year, millions of people in over 100 countries participate in World Rivers Day… and during the month of September we asked everyone we know to shout out their favourite rivers on social media or send them to us!

The results!

Keen to add your #ShoutOut to this wall? Share it with us at enquiries@arrc.com.au and feel free to add what you love about your river – whether it’s ways to protect and preserve our waterways or the value they bring to your life!

Why is this important?

Our rivers need our attention more than ever before. Water is essential for all life, and our changing climate is putting extra pressure on our rivers, affecting drinking water, wildlife habitats, and our overall wellbeing.

By highlighting your local river, you’ve helped raise awareness about all our waterways. Whether it’s a small, overlooked creek or a major river spanning several states and territories, every river plays a vital role – they preserve our environment, support life, and ensure a sustainable future. Thank you for coming together to celebrate and protect the beauty and importance of our rivers. We loved seeing all your contributions!
