How to get involved
We want you to #ShoutOutOurRivers
and here’s how!
1
Snap a photo or short video of yourself with your local river, creek, billabong – any waterway you love!
2
Share it on your social media account, using #ShoutOutOurRivers and #WorldRiversDay. Feel free to add what you love about your river – whether it’s ways to protect and preserve our waterways or the value they bring to your life, we want to hear it!
3
Encourage your friends, family and colleagues to get on board and represent our diverse Australian rivers this World River’s Day!
Shout out your river anytime during September!
Don’t use social media? We can post your photo for you – simply upload it here.
Why is this important?
Our rivers need our attention more than ever before. Water is essential for all life, and our changing climate is putting extra pressure on our rivers, affecting drinking water, wildlife habitats, and our overall wellbeing.
By highlighting your local river, you’re helping raise awareness about all our waterways. Whether it’s a small, overlooked creek or a major river spanning several states and territories, every river plays a vital role – they preserve our environment, support life, and ensure a sustainable future. Let’s come together to celebrate and protect the beauty and importance of our rivers. We can’t wait to see your contributions! We will feature every single river shared on the ARRC website below or on our social accounts.

An added incentive!
If the satisfaction that comes with helping raise awareness for our waterways isn’t enough, we’ve got some fantastic prizes up for grabs too!
We’re giving away 5 ‘Belong to the River’ mugs, and since we want to raise as much awareness as possible for our rivers, there’s no complicated criteria — simply post your river shoutout with the hashtag #ShoutOutOurRivers, and you’re in the running to win! All posts will go into a pool, and winners will be drawn at random and announced on October 1st, 2024.
If you’re one of the lucky ones, we’ll reach out via the email or social media profile you provided to share the exciting news!
Good luck!
